Here come the Men In Black… with Chris Hemsworth in the lead role!

The Men In Black spin off rumours are picking up steam with Fate of the Furious director F Gary Gray in talks to direct Sony’s spin-off of the hugely successful Men in Black series, which will be scripted by Iron Man writer Matt Holloway and Art Marcum and the best part? Thor himself, Chris Helmsworth, is in talks to star too.

Sony’s reboot is to feature new characters rather than Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ Agents K and J respectively and will build on the sci-fi world in which the original was set.

Sources say that the studio is looking to assemble a diverse ensemble cast potentially eyeing a white male, a female of colour and an older man.  The story is set to be a global adventure.

Smith and Jones powered the first Men in Black film to $589 million at the global box office in 1997 and subsequently starred in two sequels — one in 2002 and one a decade later in 2012. The entire franchise has made more than $1.5 billion worldwide.

Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are back as producers, while Steven Spielberg is returning as executive producer.

The movie is set for release on June 14, 2019

I enjoyed MIB but felt the returns diminished as the series progressed but if Helmsworth is involved I’d be more inclined to give this reboot a go.

Will Hemsworth remain in the MCU if he jumps? One thing is for sure, he proved he ad comedy chops in Ghostbusters, so he may just be a perfect choice for this gig.

Thoughts?
