Hugh Jackman set for the MCU if Disney/Fox deal goes ahead?

December 10th, 2017 by Marc Comments

With it looking likely that very soon (before Christmas we’re hearing – full details here) Disney will have The X-Men and Fantastic Four back, allowing them to be put in the MCU, we’re all pretty excited about what this could mean.

Now, this is a rumour and should be treated as one, but Aintitcool are reporting – with no real details, we might add – that Hugh Jackman may be back as Wolverine if the deal goes ahead.

Now, before this gets completely dismissed as madness, we must point out that numerous times in the past Jackman has said that he would come back as Wolverine IF he was able to interact with The Avengers, most recently saying while doing PR for Logan: “I always love the idea of him (Wolverine) within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there are a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know. At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn’t have said this is the last. It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character].”

Now, we know that Logan was a pretty definite end to the Wolverine story and we know that Jackman is getting a bit old for the role now at 49, however, we would love to see this happen.

The biggest issue we see here is that, should Jackman join the main MCU, it would mean that all the X-Men movies so far would need to become canonical to the MCU story – this leaves things a bit tricky when it comes to Quicksilver (for one), let alone the whole Mutant/Inhumans thing.

So, while we would love to see this happen and we’re sure it’s being talked about at some level, we honestly think this would be too much of a stretch.

Still.

It would be pretty damned cool.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer.
