Is Joaquin Phoenix Dr. Strange yet?!

September 1st, 2014 by Marc Comments

Joaquin Phoenix’s name has been mentioned several times over the last few months to take on the role of the sorcerer supreme, Dr. Strange.  But his negotiations seem to have been going on for an eternity.  Here’s why…

It has emerged that Phoenix was actually meant to be announced as the hero  at SDCC, walking on stage moments after signing his contract – just like Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo a few years previous.  But no matter how hard they tried, Marvel Studios just couldn’t get Phoenix to sign on the dotted line.

Collider is reporting that the actor is still in talks for the lead role, after meeting with Marvel again this week. The main issue holding back the deal between Phoenix and the studio seems to be that he is unsure if he can work on this kind of movie, AKA a movie with green screen, pre-viz, CGI, etc… which all make him uncomfortable.

It’s without question that Phoenix would be an excellent actor to take on the role, he’s certainly proved himself over the years, but the thought of the countless reshoots and of course that big Marvel multi picture deal seem to be throwing him off.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
