Is this an AT-AT Walker foot… on Tatooine?

April 17th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Ok, this could be something special, if it’s really what it seems to be…

The above image, taken by The National photographer Mona Al Marzooqi was grabbed in the Abu Dhabi desert, believed to be standing in for Tunisia as Tatooine in Star Wars Episode VII and, oh my, could that be an At-At Walker foot?!

Here is the foot that steps on Luke’s Snowspeeder in The Empire Strikes Back and it’s hard to deny that they look very, very similar.

Now, anyone who knows their Star Wars will know that the At-Ats aren’t just snow walkers and were used by the Empire across the galaxy (we see one briefly on Endor, remember?) but something about seeing them storming the Dune Sea just makes my inner fanboy want to explode!

According to the site, the photos were ” taken on Tuesday morning in the dunes near Qasr Al Sarab resort, reveal a large encampment of tents with four to five workers moving around what appear to be parts of a filmset.”

Obviously this is still speculation but I love the idea of these walkers appearing in any capacity, even lying ruined in one of the Hutt’s back gardens after some long past epic battle…

Geek overload!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
