While we’re still rewatching the DC Fandome trailer for The Batman (it’s below – we know you want to watch it again, so it’s below) we have learned some cool new details about the movie.
We learned that, thanks to director Matt Reeves, the movie – and potential trilogy – will dive into the history of the Wayne family and, it’s quite clear from the trailer that Bruce and Batman (Robert Pattinson) are part of the story beyond just the solving the case with the telling last line: “You’ll see.”
Now, we know that the villains of the piece are Penguin (Colin Farrell), Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and, most pertinent here, Riddler (Paul Dano).
With the connection to the Waynes, many have speculated that the movie may, ultimately, lead to The Court of Owls as, in that story, one member of the court claims they are Thomas Wayne Jr – Bruce’s brother, although no definite resolution has been offered.
But one of the most iconic parts of the Court of Owls are their appearance, which is a suit with a mask resembling an owl – it’s really badass.
And now these images have been shared online from the teaser trailer:
The first image is from the 2:00 mark in the trailer when Batman is seen – much like the Arkham scene in Batman Begins – using a grapple gun to quickly get to the top of what seems to be GCPD station and, on his way past one character in the background really looks like he’s wearing one of the Owl masks – you can even see the strap going over the middle of his head to hold it on.
The second image appears earlier in the trailer when Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) is showing Batman the clue left for him at the murder scene and it does look like an Owl mask in the background on a shelf, though I feel this one is a bit more tenuous.
So, what do you think? Is this the Court of Owls confirmed for The Batman? We know they’re set to appear in Gotham City Knights (here) and DC/Warners do like to share medias with their flavour of the moment – look at King Shark who in in The Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn (animated series) and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – so, it’s not impossible.
Or are we jumping at shadows?
Let me know what you all think. Would you be excited to see the Owls appear in The Batman? I know I would. Let me know…
