Tom Cruise’s next blockbuster could be Universal’s long-delayed reboot of the Mummy franchise, report Squareeyed.
The Mission: Impossible and Jack Reacher star is in talks with the studio for a lead role in the first of a series of interconnected monster movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project would team Cruise with director Alex Kurtzman (Sleepy Hollow,The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and writer Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange).
Universal Pictures has so far refused to comment on reports linking Cruise to The Mummy – which reportedly will feature a female monster.
Cruise has a busy 2016 ahead, with work on Jack Reacher: Never Go Back continuing and talk of a Top Gun sequel still swirling.
The Mummy is being designed as a lead-off for a shared universe of monster movies at Universal, with Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man and The Invisible Man also tipped as instalments.
