It looks like the Terminator franchise is finally dead…

Despite the whole franchise declining with ever new chapter since the second movie, we have always been hopeful that, one day soon, the Terminator would return. Triumphant. Glorious.

Sadly that day now seems like it’ll never happen.

Terminator Genisys, despite having grand plans involving time travel, good men turned bad, alternate realities and much, much more, fell flat for fans and critics alike.

It still raked in over $300m in profits but was seen as a disappointment overall and now it seems that Paramount have no desire to bring the franchise back any more.

Apparently “The studio has taken the sequel off the production slate completely, meaning there is no preproduction or any plans for another sequel. The talent had been offered long term deals, but this is not happening.

“The Genisys movie was seen as a way of reviving (the franchise), but the critics were not happy and somehow the studio bosses fell out of love with making more, even though they made huge profits”.

The franchise, which began in 1984 when James Cameron made a superstar out of Arnold Schwarzenegger and has had five movies and a TV series since but sadly seemed to be running out of steam with every new appearance.

“It would need an independent production company to think about making this, and asking Arnie back at age 70 to play that again may be a tough ask,” continues the new report on the franchise.

However, and we’re just speculating here, we know that Cameron is getting the rights back in a couple of years and there was rumours a while back that he was looking for a director to take the franchise in a new direction himself, bringing it back to the roots of the first two movies that he wrote and directed (here)… so maybe the franchise is merely dead at Paramount.

But we don’t know for sure either way.

Whatever happens it’ll be a while before we see a new Terminator movie… if at all.

What do you all think about this news? Let us know…
