It looks like the X-Men won’t be hitting the MCU anytime soon, but could Jackman be back as Wolverine?

It looks like, despite it being confirmed that Disney, through the purchase of some of 20th Century Fox, will be getting the X-Men and Fantastic Four back, there are no plans to integrate them… yet.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, at one of the Black Panther Press days, has said that the plan will stay as is until at least 2019: “These are big deals…and certainly above my pay grade.”

He went on to say that, despite all the news we’re hearing, the deal is still only in the early stages: “The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do.

“It would be years away. We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted [ and I only think] about it through 2019,” he added.

This would make sense, after all, that’s only really next year at this stage, but we would expect to hear announcements about the next phase of the MCU soon… will this include X-Men or Fantastic Four? Well, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more.

Oh, and the talk of 2019 has many fans speculating that Feige is planning on stepping down as the movie showrunner next year. He certainly owes Marvel/Disney nothing but who could possibly replace him?

In related news, according to Sebastian Stan, Hugh Jackman himself may not be as against the whole returning as Wolverine if he was invited into the MCU (as reported here). Speaking recently at Ace Comic Con, Stan had this to say to tease the audience: “Recently I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman. I didn’t know what other awkward thing I could talk about but to be like, ‘Am I going to see you soon?’ He said a couple of things to me and I’ll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I’m going to get into trouble with somebody.

“I asked him though because I kept thinking whether or not Logan was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever and he said to me he’s been thinking about it and it’s been on his mind. So, I don’t know, he may be.”

So there you have it. We’d love to see some sort of crossover event similar to Days of Future Past that brings the X-Men that are currently occupying the Fox movie world into the MCU… this would definitely mean there’s room for Jackman’s Wolverine.

What say you all?
