This piece of news has been threatened for a long time. Though, to be honest, I never thought it would actually see the light of day. However, it would seem that Michael Bay is plowing full steam ahead with his plans to produce a remake of The Birds. This news was announced alongside the casting news of Naomi Watts taking up the lead role.

For those who are unaware, The Birds is a remake of Hitchcock’s 1963 classic. The film tells the tale of a woman who follows a potential boyfriend to a town in Northern California. However, upon her arrival, the birds in the area begin to attack and kill people.

Let’s try and forget for a moment that this is a movie that doesn’t need to be remade (no matter how hard that may be). You’re taking a film made by Alfred Hitchcock, one of the greatest visionaries ever to work behind a camera, and allowing Michael Bay to remake it. Michael Bay is a walking punch-line in the film industry.

As of this point in time there is no director, no script and no release date to speak of, so who knows what could happen. However, I guess we can look forward to seeing Michael Bay’s: The Birds in cinemas in the next few years; presumably where the birds kill people by exploding, Birdemic style.
