Jason Momoa was set to be Hobbs’ brother in Hobbs & Shaw and Fast & Furious could become an annual movie event

February 2nd, 2019 by Marc Comments

So everyone is getting excited for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw after the mental trailer that dropped yesterday (here) and no sooner is it out, that big news hits about the future of the Fast & Furious franchise.

First up, it seems that Dwayne Johnson has big plans for a superhero to be his brother in Hobbs & Shaw that sadly fell through… for now.

“Me and [Jason] Momoa tried hard to get him in this movie to play my brother, but his schedule was too packed. Next Hobbs movie for sure,” the actor told TheInsider.

Of course we know that Joe Anoa’i AKA WWE champion Roman Reigns is Hobbs’ brother in the movie (here) but it looks like the Hobbs’ family has still more family members out there… but Momoa and Johnson as brothers works for us!

In other news, it seems the Fast franchise might be aiming for a Marvelesque business plan.

“Universal is taking steps to make Fast & Furious an annual event, between the various spinoffs and sequels that are officially in development and those we haven’t heard about yet, but which are clearly being either mapped out or considered.”

Now we know that Vin Diesel himself revealed recently that a second spin-off franchise was in the works with a third planned.

Now, we know the one movie a year plan didn’t work for Star Wars, although we’d say there’s plenty of reasons Star Wars is failing rather over-saturation, but we think that the Fast franchise,  divided in four different directions could have a great little corner of the market as long as they focused on creating fun action outings rather than pushing agendas or subverting fan expectations (cough).

Fast & Furious 9 will arrive eight months after Hobbs & Shaw in April 2020 and Fast & Furious 10 is set for 2021 although, if this pans out how we expect at this stage, we could see 2021 being the debut of the new female-led franchise.

Whatever happens, one Fast & Furious movie per year works for us… so long as they don’t loose sight of the goal.

Although, we don’t know what ever became of the Fast & Furious Animated Series we heard about last year… (Here)

What say you all?
