Joe Russo, co-director of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has been talking about the third movie in the franchise and the impact it’s going to have on the entire Marvel Movie Universe, much the same way Winter Soldier blew everything wide open with the HYDRA thing.
He says the title alone, which has been planned for years, will be a massive reveal: “If you’ve been talking to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige, the title has been in place probably for ten years in his brain, it’s all part of the road map that he’s laid out, and it’s all part of the bigger plan.”
To tease even more, Russo says the twist in Winter Soldier was nothing compared to what’s coming: “The big thing we knew we had to deal with in Cap 2 was the fall of Hydra. Similarly there is a very, very big idea at the center of Cap 3[that] alters the universe as a whole in some way.”
He was keen to point out that the villain and surrounding story is up to them: “As far as villain and story arc and tone, all that stuff is left up to us.”
We can probably surmise that, given this information and what has gone before, Captain America 3 may well set up the events of Avengers 3.
Captain America 3 will be released in May 2016.
