While their last few collaborative efforts have never hit the heights of Hudsucker Proxy, Oh, Brother Where Art Thou or The Big Lebowski, it’s hard not to get excited when you hear that Joel and Ethan Coen are writing and directing a new movie.
It’s even more exciting when you learn it’s a horror and is being compared to their masterpiece, Blood Simple.
At a recent ‘In Conversation‘ event, Ethan Coen and fellow filmmaker Tricia Cooke – the duo’s movie, Drive Away Dolls, came out last year – revealed that the brothers have written a new script and it may even go before the cameras before the end of 2024!

On the script, Cooke said: “It’s a pure horror film, and it gets very bloody. If you like Blood Simple, I think you’ll enjoy it.”
She also revealed that it’s ‘horribly funny’ and once Joel finishes ‘another’ project, he’ll be set to go and hopefully it’ll be before the end of the year.
There’s nothing else to add on this but as someone who loves the Coens and even at their worst, can find something to love (well, maybe not Intolerable Cruelty – what was THAT?!), the thought of the pair uniting to make a horror movie, returning to their earlier work such as the aforementioned Blood Simple and Barton Fink, is very, very exciting indeed.
