There’s been a lot of to-ing and fro-ing ever since the fourth movie but now it seems to be confirmed that a fifth John Wick movie is coming.
We’re going to get a little spoilery here, folks.
So, if you’ve seen the fourth movie, you’ll know that Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, died and in his last moments saw the vision of his late wife, implying that, at last, he could rest and the afterlife awaited. However, John Wick has become as big and Bill & Ted or the Matrix movies, so there’s no keeping a good man down, even if he’s dead.

Now, Jenefer Brown, EVP and Head of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate, getting ready for the release of Ballerina, the first big-screen Joh Wick spinoff, in June, confirmed that John Wick 5 is happening: “This world continues to grow and expand in incredible ways,” she says.
“Up next, of course, we have Ballerina, which is our first spin-off movie and [we] can’t wait for that to release to the world. Of course, we’ve announced we’re working on a fifth John Wick film. I think there are more spinoffs to come, a TV series, video game.”
On the fifth movie, she added: “[John Wick] may be [dead]. We are all on bated breath waiting to find out.”
In a recent interview, Reeves himself, when asked if Wick could return, was quite clear on the character’s demise: “Well, you know the character’s dead,” he said, adding: “He died in John Wick: Chapter 4. I know [it’s] Hollywood … but right now there isn’t [a chance of his returning].”
However, we know that in Ballerina, Reeves will play Wick in what seems to be a substantial role; he is in there because the movie takes place during the third John Wick movie, meaning that there’s plenty of opportunity to bring him back without undoing the ending the character had.
Could we see a younger John Wick? There’s undoubtedly room for adventures during and in between the movies plus there’s a lot we haven’t seen of the character before the first movie, so I don’t think a resurrection is necessary just to see more of John Wick.
Whatever happens, we have five appearances of him when Ballerina opens this summer and no matter what happens, the world he lives in is massive and there’s many great stories still to tell… with (preferably) or without John Wick.
