John Wick director steps in to beef up Birds Of Prey action scenes

August 20th, 2019 by Marc Comments

So it looks like DC’s Birds  of Prey movie is getting som reshoots, but before all the ‘DC is crap!” comments begin, it doesn’t sound like it’s a problem… in fact, it may be a good idea.

It seems that Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be getting some additional stuff added by John Wick trilogy director Chad Stahelski – more specifically, it will be action scenes.

But Stahelski’s stunt company, 87 Eleven, was working on the movie from the beginning, so it’s possible he was alwasy set to be invlved in some way as now he’s joining as an uncredited second-unit director to craft more action scenes for the film.

Now, when this rumour broke, many assumed it was to extensively reshoot bits of the movie ala Justice League and Suicide Squad, especailly after the rumours of some crazy plot points a while back (read them here, I’m not going back into it all), but no, it seems story-wise, the Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez starrer will be much as it already is, especially since Stahelski will be a cactitnign g as a second-unit director and will not have a major role ot play in the reshoots.

Look, it’s not uncommon for a more experienced actio director to be brought in to make a movie’s action scenes more punchy and fast-paced so, after Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam!, I think Warners/DC have a clearer idea where these movies are going and, as such, have no reason to suspect this in any way indicates problems with the movie.

But what do you all think?

Let me know true-believers…
