John Wick spinoff The Ballerina will be ‘unlike anything we’ve seen in previous movies.’

If, like me, you’re a big fan of the John Wick universe and are already pacing the floor in anticipation of Ballerina, the big-screen spinoff, then I have some fun news for you.

One of my biggest fears with John Wick is that eventually, it will start to become a little, well, stale and, look, I loved John Wick Chapter 4 but by the end, I felt like it was treading water a little.

But it seems that I should have no such worries with Ballerina.

Co-writer Shay Hatten says fans aren’t ready for how it will expand the world of John Wick with “a whole new corner” of the story and even a connection to Wick’s past.

Ana DeArmas’ Ballerina will fight Keanu Reeves’ John Wick in spin-off movie

Ballerina is a direct spinoff from the ballet academy we saw in the third John Wick movie that was run by Anjelica Houston and will feature a “character who kind of went through some of the same training as John in the ballet academy,” says Hatten.

“But then [the Ballerina, played by Ana De Armas] ends up going to a whole new corner of the world and a new kind of isolated community that really is unlike anything we’ve seen in these previous John Wick movies.”

The Wick movies, especially Chapter 4, are a pretty globetrotting affair, so a new community will be welcomed for sure.

“I do think people will be like, ‘Oh, that’s another kind of cool, unique side of this world that we haven’t seen before.’ And it really is serviced by story. It’s wherever it makes sense for the story to go, we’ll go to that part of the world and just try to think of something cool to do there,” Hatten went on.

The movie will feature Keanu Reeves Wick and takes place between the third and fourth John Wick movie; Hatten promises that Reeves’ appearance will be a small cameo just for the sake of it but will show us how Wick recovered during the events of those two movies and will feature Ian McShane’s Winston and the late Lance Reddick’s Charon; Angelica Huston will also return and The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus will play a new addition to the Wick world.

De Armas recently confirmed that she and Reeves would share screentime and might even lock horns at some stage, saying: “The other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing crazy stunts. And I’m like — I can’t complain anymore. Because he is doing it! He truly is the best.”

S0unds great and, with a world as rich as Wick’s, there are a lot of potential spinoffs and series that could still exist and I hope we see them and they maintain the quality of the first four movies.

Thoughts? I want t hear them, folks.

Ballerina premieres sometime in 2024.

Studio REALLY wants more John Wick movies PLUS another spinoff is coming…
