Josh Brolin set to return to the MCU… as Cable?

September 19th, 2021 by Marc Comments

While most Marvel/MCU fans hold Josh Brolin in their hearts as Thanos, the mad Titan, for many of us – myself included – it’s his performance as Nathan Summers AKA Cable in Deadpool 2 that we most want to see a return in some form or other.

Now scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Disney/Marvel really want Brolin back as Cable as well as, potentially, Thanos again at some future stage.

Brolin recently appeared as Thanos in the What If…? animated series but he, like all of us here at FTN Towers, hopes he’ll be back as to hassle Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in the planned third Deadpool movie.

Speaking with Ace Universal and his duel Marvel roles came up in conversation.

“Deadpool worked out very much in my favor,” the star says. “Deadpool was supposed to be four movies. Maybe there’ll be more — I don’t know what Marvel has in store — but it turned out to be one really fun movie for me.”

We know that Reynolds will be the first (and only?) star to make the jump from Fox’s Marvel universe to the MCU and will also be the first r-rated entry in the Disney franchise (here) but will Cable come too?

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld recently addressed the possibility of Brolin returning, saying: “Josh wants to be Cable again sooner than later. He is itching to be Cable again. He loved being Cable. He told me he understands how beloved his role as Thanos is, but he doesn’t look completely like Josh Brolin.”

Marvel has a strict rule about actors playing different roles in the MCU but we get the feeling they may end up breaking that rule to make this happen… after all, given the plot of Deadpool 2 which featured Cable’s time-travel device and Deadpool altering timelines, Cable may just be the way these characters to enter the MCU. As for him looking and sounding like Thanos? Multiverse, baby!

Anyways, we’d love to see Deadpool and Cable return and we’d absolutely love to see Zazie Beetz return as Domino too.

So, come on Disney, do the right thing here!

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
