OK, it was weird how well Jude Law’s face lined up when I created that image (above)!
So in case you haven’t gathered already, it looks like Jude Law has been cast as the young Albus Dumbledore in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Law will be joining Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and Johnny Depp as the villainous Grindelwald, enemy of Dumbledore who’s conflict was first mentioned in the Harry Potter novels.
Dumbledore was of course played in the live-action movies by Richard Harris before his death and then by Michael Gambon after.
Word is that Law edged out actors such as Christian Bale, Jared Harris (Richard Harris’ actor son) and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Director of Fantastic Beasts and the upcoming sequel, David Yates, said: “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him.
“I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
We reckon Law is a great choice for the role of the young Dumbledore and, frankly, it’s just another reason to be excited for the magical sequel…
Fantastic Beasts 2 apparates on November 16th, 2018.
