Justice League reshoots: A tangle of rewrites, scheduling issues and moustaches

July 24th, 2017 by Marc Comments

There’s no question that the extended Justice League trailer at SDCC went down very well with, well, everyone (watch it here).

But many are still wondering, with the departure of Zack Snyder due to the death of his daughter, just how much will the movie change under new director Joss Whedon.

And the answer is… quite a bit. Around $25 million worth actually.

The reshoots are currently ongoing in London and LA but are currently proving difficult because of scheduling. And moustaches. Seriously.

While reshoots and extra spending is fairly standard, apparently these are over the top as $6 million to $10 million is standard.

But let’s not forget that Suicide Squad, Rogue One and, more recently, the Han Solo movie have all had similar situation so none of this is completely out of the ordinary.

While Batman and Wonder Woman AKA Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, are free from other commitments at the minute, however Flash and Superman, AKA Ezra Miller and Henry Cavill are otherwise engaged.

Miller is filming Fantastic Beasts II which is a Warners movie and making the rescheduling a little handier, but Cavill is filming the Mission: Impossible 6 at Paramount and – sorry, but rather hilariously – he has a moustache for that movie that he’s under contract NOT to shave until filming is finished.

This means that, we kid you not, he’s filming the new scenes for Justice League with the Moustache that will then be digitally erased:

Adding to the madness, Joss Whedon will have committed a considerable amount of time to Justice League between directing and script changes – including punchier dialogue – so the question has arisen of what credit he’ll get on the movie.

Rumours are abound that he’s set for a director credit, however it seems more likely he’ll get a producing/screenplay one.

Word is that, moving forward, Warners plan on setting aside large amounts of money to tighten up tentpole movies after initial filming had finished… so is that the case here?

You decide… and let us know your thoughts.
