Justin Lin leaves Fast franchise. But who will step up?

April 7th, 2013 by Marc Comments

We’re actually pretty upset by this news…

It seems that director Justin Lin is leaving the Fast and Furious fold at Universal.

Lin, who helmed the movies since the third movie, Tokyo Drift, told the studio on Wednesday that he will not be helming the seventh movie.

According to Darkhorizons , ‘Lin’s exit is said to be due to timing as Universal has put the film on an aggressively accelerated timetable to have it ready for summer 2014’.

But who is now in the frame, given that Vin Diesel announced filming will begin this summer last week on Facebook?

The Internet rumour mill has Jeff Wadlow, the man behind Kick-Ass 2, as Universal’s top choice. other names attached are Brad Furman, director of The Lincoln Lawyer, and Harald Zwart , director of, em, The Karate Kid and The Pink Panther. Universal is expected to make an official announcement this week coming.

Whatever happens, the Fast franchise, which has been getting better with each movie, could well be in trouble…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
