We’ve known for some time that Disney has been planning on rebooting the Pirates of the Caribbean series and now may have an idea what direction they are going in.
After Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s rather public, em, disagreements, and the franchise’s natural drying up, it was looking more and more likely that we might not be seeing Captain Jack Sparrow for while… and now it seems we may never see him again.
The latest word is that Disney are looking at Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji star Karen Gillan will be stepping up to captain the new franchise sailing ahead.
While it’s currently unclear if the actress has had formal talks with Disney, it certainly looks like she’s the choice for the gig.
Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and previous Pirates writer Ted Elliot will be penning the new series of movies after being brought on board last October.
Back in 2018 President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, Sean Bailey said of the new direction: “We want to bring in a new energy and vitality.”
We’ll report more as and when it arrives, gang, but for now, what say you all about Gillan fronting a major franchise? HAs she got what it takes? Little Amy Pond sure has come a long way.
