Kevin Feige has no issue with Josh Brolin being Thanos and Cable… and the Marvel movies will never go R-rated

Everyone was a little surprised a couple of weeks ago when Josh Brolin was cast as Cable in Deadpool 2 (here) mostly because Brolin is already committed to playing Thanos in the Avengers Infinity War movies.

Sure, it’s a different studio but they are still Marvel properties… but Marvel head Kevin Feige isn’t too bothered, it seems.

“We don’t have anything written into our contracts about other roles that people can do,” said Feige

“Indiana Jones and Han Solo are the same person … it hasn’t been a problem. And I think Thanos and Cable are two very different characters.”

Ok, that’s fair enough… but speaking of Deadpool, with the Netflix Marvel shows going to the solid R-rated content, will the movies go the same way like Deadpool and Logan?

“My takeaway from both of those films is not the R rating,” says Feige, “it’s the risk they took, the chances they took, the creative boundaries that they pushed. That should be the takeaway for everyone.”

He also pointed out that for those reasons the R-rating worked because Deadpool broke the fourth wall while Logan was a very final story – neither of these things are on the cards for Marvel yet.

As Feige pointed out, humour is the heart of the MCU, so don’t expect them to get as dark as Netflix, Deadpool or Logan anytime soon.

Works for us. What about you all?
