Ok, so now that we’ve made our peace – sort of – with the full title of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s time to start thinking about where the movies are going.
And, while we have no access to the studio’s plans, it seems that Kevin smith does (although we knew this already). On his latest podcast episode of Hollywood Babble-on, the actor/director/prolific-podcaster talks about the future of DC on film and, more specifically, the Justice League: “This is the beginning of the Justice League, as we all suspected when they were announcing that cast. We were like, “This is the beginning of a Justice League movie.” From what I understand now, it’s no longer like, “This is Superman 2”. They’re not doing these things. They’re doing like, “Here’s Man of Steel. Here’s Batman/Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The next one is not like a sequel to one of the characters. They’re just going to keep building their universe for about five or six movies… it’s supposed to tell one massive story, which is all Justice League oriented.”
Which is what we figured already, really, Batman V Superman is not a sequel to Man Of Steel but rather it’s the next DC movie. Which makes sense.
Although, despite the fact that smith has been positive about everything DC movie related so far, he – like many fans – is a bit baffled by the title: “It’s a bit of a mouthful. And also, I don’t know why Batman V Superman? Why not just throw the ‘s’ in there? Or spell it or something like that?
“Or honestly, every comic book fan on the planet who is a DC comic book fan, I think we all wanted to see Batman/Superman: World’s Finest.”
Well, he’s just saying what we’re all thinking, really… but he’s right, it does seem like the DC strategy is to build a universe rather than character-directed sequels, each movie will simply lead into the next. And, yeah, the title is a head scratcher.
As always, we want to know your thoughts…
