Almost two years after his death, actor Kevin Conroy’s portrayal of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series and various other movies and games, is still considered one of – if not the – best versions of the character ever committed to film.
So it’s not a great surprise that, yesterday when it was leaked how his final performance as Batman was wrapped up in the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was confirmed as being part of the Arkham game universe, in which Conroy played Batman several times, fans really were unhappy.
You can watch the final Batman scene here but, you know, spoilers:
O problema do jogo Esquadrão Suicida não é a história ou a gameplay estranha. O problema é a Rocksteady.
Se qualquer outro estúdio fosse responsável pela obra, ninguém estaria reclamando. O que dói aqui é saber que antes desse jogo veio a quadrilogia Batman Arkham. #SuicideSquad pic.twitter.com/cUtveWf4AP

However, while the scene could certainly be argued as being tasteless, the game’s title did give a clue as to how the story would play out and, let’s be honest, the calls of Warner Brothers disrespecting Conroy’s legacy are silly – after all, the actor was paid for the role, likely knew how it was going to play out and the studio didn’t know the tragic events that would unfold for the actor shortly afterward.
However, it doesn’t really matter anymore as it’s been revealed that Kill the Justice League is not the last time we’ll hear Conroy’s Batman… in fact, we have yet to see him once more as the Batman: The Animated Series version of the character!

According to a new report, Conroy’s Batman will appear in the upcoming Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three which will end the current DC Animated Universe dubbed The Tomorrowverse, presumably to allow the animated movies tying into James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU to start up.
While we don’t have a release date yet for Crisis parts two or three, having this Batman makes sense as the Crisis storyline sees all DC universes collide and having him back would be a big win and a fan favourite.
Conroy’s Batman has appeared in a Crisis On Infinite Earths adventure before, appearing in the massive Arrowverse crossover event on The CW a few years back as a live-action version of the character.
However, it seems that he will also be returning for another Batman project, although it’s unlikely he’ll be Batman or Bruce Wayne in this one. Conroy had reportedly recorded lines for Bruce Timm’s Batman: Caped Crusader animated show – Timm was the person who brought us Batman: The Animated Series and Conroy as the character way back in the 90s – so having them work together on this should be fun, if bittersweet.
UPDATED: Timm has confirmed that, while it was supposed to happen, Conroy sadly never got to record the lines, saying: “We were hoping to have him do a voice for the new show (and he was eager to do it) but sadly he passed away before we could make it happen.”
Whatever happens, this just means that we still have some more of Conry’s Batman – and more – to look forward to, meaning that the grim ending of Kill the Justice League isn’t his final sign-off.
