Holy awesome cameo, Batman!!!

At the TCA Summer press tour earlier tonight it was announced that the one and only Kevin Conroy would be appearing in this year’s The CW Arrowverse crossover, Crisis On Infinite Earths, as an older Bruce Wayne!

Conroy is, of course, best known as the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Arkham Asylum games and the timeless Batman: The Animated Series from the 1990s.

Of course, Batman: The Animated Series was followed by Batman Beyond (Or Batman of the Future if you live in the UK) and Conroy returned to play an older Bruce Wayne who was retired and training a new Batman.

This is fantastic news as Conroy is – to many –  the definitive Batman and to see him bringing the role to life in real-life will be fantastic.

Not only that but… does this mean that Batman: The Animated Series is now officially part of the extended Arrowverse? My mind is honestly blown.

He will join Brandon Routh who is returning as Superman/Clark Kent and Burt Ward who I seriously hope is playing an older Robin. I’m also hearing Tom Welling and Lynda Carter are returning as older versions of Superman from Smallville and Wonder Woman from, em, Wonder Woman.

And I get the feeling there’s more casting awesomeness to come.

Say what you will about The CW shows (I have plenty of issues with them myself) but they are all about pleasing the fans when it comes to these crossover events.

What are your thoughts? I wanna hear them, folks.

This coming season, The CW will present its biggest DC crossover ever with Crisis on Infinite Earths airing across five different episodes of the network’s hit superhero series and spanning two quarters (December 2019 and January 2020). The Crisis on Infinite Earths episodic air schedule is as follows:

Supergirl – Sunday, December 8, 2019 (8pm ET/PT)
Batwoman – Monday, December 9, 2019 (8pm ET/PT)
The Flash – Tuesday, December 10, 2019 (8pm ET/PT)
Arrow – Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (8pm ET/PT)
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (9pm ET/PT)

Conroy himself is, obviously, very excited about the news:

As is the official Batman: The Animated Series Twitter account:

Someone has done a beautiful bit of fan art of Conroy as Wayne:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
