Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes signs up lead and gets ready to film

October 1st, 2022 by Marc Comments

The next Planet of the Apes movie nails down lead as it gets set to begin production next month and we have the first look at the movie’s beautiful production art above.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will star The Witcher’s Freya Allen as the human protagonist along with Owen Teague as the lead ape, taking over from Andy Serkis in the previous three movies.

The movie is set for 2024 and  takes place ‘many years after 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes and will be directed by Wes Ball.

20th Century Studios president, Steve Asbell said: “Planet of the Apes is one of the most iconic and storied science fiction franchises in film history, as well as being an indelible part of our studio’s legacy.

“With Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, we are privileged to continue the series’ tradition of imaginative, thought-provoking cinema, and can’t wait to share Wes’ extraordinary vision for this new chapter with audiences in 2024.”

I loved Matt Reeves’ previous Apes trilogy and admire anyone who thinks they can step up to continue its story. I hope they’re up to the gig.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
