Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt join cast of new Ghostbusters movie

March 25th, 2023 by Marc Comments

With the production of Ghostbusters: Firehouse now underway, we’ve got some huge casting news to report on, as Deadline.com has confirmed the additions of Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind. The ensemble will join the already confirmed cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon.

Arguably the biggest reveal comes in Nanjiani, below, a stand-up comedian turned Oscar nominee, who was recently seen in Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales and opposite Ewan McGregor in the Disney+ Star Wars prequel Obi-Wan.

Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd back for new Ghostbusters movie

Posting on his Twitter page, Nanjiani wrote: “Ghostbusters was my first favorite movie. I remember exactly how I felt the first time I watched it. Horror and comedy in one movie? This movie was made for me, and I watched it over and over. The script is unbelievably good. I can’t believe I get to be a part of this world.”

Keeping with the comedic vibe, Oswalt, left, a longtime Ghostbusters fan, who even got the chance to voice Mooglie, the franchise’s no-ghost logo, in a previously released VR experience, seems like a perfect fit with his recent credits including Magnolia Pictures’ I Love My Dad, and the Emmy nominated Netflix specials I Love Everything and Annihilation.

Lastly, we’ve got James Acaster, an English comedian who starred in the series Repertoire, and the 20-year-old Emily Alyn Lind, whose credits include Doctor Sleep and Gossip Girl.

While not officially announced through Columbia Pictures Ghost Corps, both Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace have made it apparent they’ll be back for the sequel, in addition to Ernie Hudson and Celeste O’Connor being expected to return.
