It looks like we have good news from the world of Gozer…
You may recall a little over a week ago we reported that Ernie Hudson had cast some doubt over his appearance in the next Ghostbusters movie – called either Firehouse or Hell’s Kitchen (here are the details on the new name). The star, who plays Winston Zeddemore in the series, said: “They’re doing another one, and I’m not sure if I’ll be in it, but for the fans to know, it won’t be because of me.”
Needless to say, this caused fans like myself to be very disgruntled, especially since the last movie, Ghostbusters Afterlife, basically set Winston up not just to return but to be the boss of a whole new team.

Then, a few days ago, Hudson was more positive about the whole thing, saying in a new interview with Howard Stern: “My representatives say it’s all happening. They’re measuring me for suits and sending me scripts, but I’m like, yeah, but, you know, I haven’t signed.”
Following on from this, a recent Production Weekly listing gives us great news, confirming that Hudson is back and he’ll be accompanied by none other than Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz as they form a new team of ‘Busters:
The new synopsis reads: ‘After the events in Oklahoma, the Ghostbusters team returns to where it all started; New York City! The Spengler family story continues with a new group of Ghostbusters led by Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd).’
This is such exciting news and something we hoped for a long time as fans of the series, the characters and the actors.
Hudson said of the new script: “Jason Reitman, who is producing this one, from the very beginning when he got involved … There’s been a lot of things out recently about me not being happy about certain treatments or whatever. But Jason made sure — and in fact, we talked about it — that Winston would be very much included and very much part of the franchise and appreciated for what he brings to it. Everybody’s back. It’s a great script and a lot of fun.”
It looks like all our fears have been put rest and with Winston and Ray in charge of the new cast of characters from Afterlife, you can count this Ghosthead as being very, very excited.
Ghostbusters: Firehouse [Hell’s Kitchen] will be directed by Gil Kenan and will also star returning cast Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Carrie Coon.
It’s sure for release on December 20th, 2023.
