Leslie Grace’s Batgirl suit is revealed and we’re in love with it

January 16th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Oh, boy, has this caused some crying online.

Not my Batgirl! Worse than The CW! How did we go from Batfleck’s suit to this!

And, look, I’ve done my fair share of complaining about movies, suits, characters etc over the years, but I had an epiphany of sorts while reading social media over the weekend.. we have become a bunch of crying, spoiled brats.

Seriously… between the crying done over the colourful speeder bikes in The Book of Boba Fett, to this suit, it’s really rather sad. It’s fine to not like something or to be unhappy – heck, there’s plenty that grinds my gears, but to feel motivated to go online and spend a whole weekend moaning about it? Man, oh, man.

Anyway…

We have our first official look at actress Leslie Grace as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon Gordon and, personally, I love it.

The suit is a perfect – except for the gloves – recreation of the modern Burnside version of Batgirl [right down to the yellow boots!] from the comics, with a lot of love for Yvonne Craig’s Batgirl from the 60s Batman series as we have illustrated, left, and was revealed by Grace on social media, below.

The movie is currently filming in Glasgow here in the UK and also stars Michael Keaton as Batman and JK Simmons as James Gordon. Brendan Frazer has also joined the cast as the villainous Firefly which has us more excited than we should be.

Grace said last year on playing the iconic role: “She’s someone who’s been underestimated by even her own dad and being the youngest kid, sometimes you’re insulated from all of the tough stuff of life and she’s so eager to prove to herself and to everybody else that there’s some things that she can handle.

“So, this journey is definitely going to show me a lot of that. I feel like I’m on an endless journey of proving to myself what barriers I can break, what limits I can break for myself and I’m excited to put a little bit of that eagerness and drive and, like, almost a bit of stubbornness into Barbara’s character.”

The movie has been in production hell for some time with it previously being set to be directed by Joss Whedon who signed on while filming his additional stuff for Zac Snyder’s Justice League, however, after that movie was a colossal failure at the box office, Whedon departed the project.

Then Bad Boys for Life directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi jumped onboard with a script from Birds of Prey’s Christine Hodson – Hodson also wrote the upcoming Flash movie.

Personally, I can’t wait to see this movie and I’m excited as all heck to see this movie and I can’t wait to see Keaton’s Batman return for this and The Flash – Keaton was MY Batman as a kid and those movies made me the movie fan/nerd I am today – although I am still a bit unsure how well his replacing Affleck’s Batman is going to work, but I remain excited nonetheless.

Batgirl will arrive sometime later this year on HBO Max.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
