Logan director James Mangold attached to a Boba Fett movie

With Solo: A Star Wars Story opening a few days ago here in the UK, we see what Lucasfilm/Disney may be trying to do with the ‘stand alone’ movies.

We’ll stay spoiler-free here, but at the end of the movie something happens that may hint at these movies opening up a parallel story-telling idea that may see the standalones following a story line in the back ground… maybe one series of events that pull in characters that we didn’t realise were previously connected, even in a very slight way.

And, with that in mind, it looks like the oft-rumoured Boba Fett and Obi-Wan movies ARE happening.

The Obi-Wan movie still has Stephen Daldry directing as we reported almost a year ago (here), however it’s the Boba Fett movie that has the intestine new details.

It was rumored that Simon Kinberg, the writer-producer behind the X-Men franchise and films such as The Martian, was working on a Boba Fett movie. While Lucasfilm and Disney won’t make any official confirmation, sources say that [James] Mangold will co-write the script with Kinberg, who will also produce the Boba Fett project. Kinberg and Mangold are close, having worked on Logan, the X-Men spinoff that earned high praise last year.

So, just to break that down, Simon Kinsberg, writer of Star Wars Rebels, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Sherlock Holmes will be co-writing the movie with director James Mangold.

Yes, the director of Logan is reportedly attached to direct Boba Fett.

While Solo wasn’t the best movie we’ve ever seen, it certainly entertained and set up a new part of the Star Wars universe that we’ve been reading and playing games about for years and it could bring it all together in a new way… we just hope that it doesn’t pull it all together in such a way that makes the universe feel small.

But yeah… James Mangold directing a Boba Fett movie? We can get behind that.
