We loved Logan, we really did. It was a fitting send-off to Hugh Jackman’s long standing Wolverine and it brought us both joy and sorrow.
However, while that was all awesome, there was one thing that we just couldn’t deal with how awesome it was… x23.
Young actress Dafne Keen’s Laura blew us away and was the standout in the movie and left us hoping that we would see her in the role again. and now it looks like we just might.
Director James Mangold has confirmed that “We’re just working on a script” for an X23 movie and yes, it could star young Keen in the title role and he says director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman was a big stepping stone and could allow movies like X23 to have a better chance of getting made: “Patty’s success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
But will Jackman be involved at all? Sadly, the actor/producer says no he won’t be involved at all, “But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it though. She is just phenomenal,” he adds.
And we’ll be right there with you, Hugh.
Speaking of why Logan stood out from all other superhero movies (and there is plenty), Mangold said: “I think I have a kind of healthy contempt for this kind of film. Even the genre. I tried to bring with it a kind of jaundiced eye about formula that we’ve gotten really in the habit of delivering on, and was trying to deliver a picture that offers some of the same sense of wonder and imagination that these films tend to offer but doing so in a way where it’s less about fetishizing costumes and equipment and CG effects and more about character.”
So there you have it, an X23 movie is likely to be coming… and we’re just delighted about it.
Are you?
