Lucas says Ford, Hamill and Fisher are pretty much a done deal

March 7th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

In February, we heard a lot of rumors (I’ll take blame too) about the original “Star Wars” cast returning for Star Wars: Episode 7. Harrison Ford reportedly confirmed by Latino Review. Carrie Fisher’s reply that yes she was signed on, though now her rep says she was joking, jokes on us I guess. Mark Hamill stated he actually hadn’t signed yet but was in talks. All of this speculation was further reinforced when more news came that said the trio were indeed coming back, and the plot for ‘Episode 7’ would focus on their children. In short, there have been a lot of signs suggesting they’ll be back, but not much in the way of official announcements. Well, George Lucas himself has now commented.

Bloomberg Business Week has a main article on Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm and the “Star Wars” franchise, and they manage to get some time with Lucas. They bluntly ask him if Fisher, Ford, and Hamill will be back in Episode: VII. Here’s how he answered:

“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, Look, this is what’s going on. Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.”

Maybe they want to announce it? You think?

It’s already established that Lucas had met with at least Hamill and Fisher prior to the sale to Disney, but he won’t go so far as to reveal if they really will be involved.

“I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not,” he adds.

Is it just me or are negotiations taking a while? For a group who aren’t really doing much. ( Yeah I know Ford is in Anchorman 2 ) Next time negotiate with Lightsabers.
