Well, it’s true to say that the trailer for The Force Awakens hit us hard this week and brought many of us back to a place in our childhood that only the Force can.

We’ve been watching it at least once a day, pondering what we’re seeing, in awe of the visuals and truly hoping that it can bring us back to the movies that defined many of us here at FTN HQ.

And we’re not on our own.

The trailer smashed all viewing records (112million in first 24hrs plus the 16million who watched it during the football) and the pre-sale tickets (the movie is still almost two months away) blew the box-office open wide. And Lucasfilm are very grateful.

The company said over the weekend that they were  “totally overwhelmed by the enthusiasm we’ve seen from fans this week and throughout the lead-up to this film.”

“Thank you all for making the ‘Star Wars’ universe what it is, for keeping it alive and growing and meaningful,” said a statement from the company. “‘Star Wars’ is back and beginning an exciting new journey, and it’s because of you.”

Pre-sales broke the previous record held by The Hunger Games, selling eight times as many tickets. But it’s more than just the figures, say Lucasfilm:  “There were cheers and there were tears from fans young and old. We saw and loved it all, and it meant the world to creators of the film. And we were equally blown away by the advance ticket sales.”

Lucasfilm, you have our attention… Star Wars is back in a Force (ahem) that we haven’t seen in a long time, just don’t let us down with the finished product.

Oh, and you’re very, very welcome…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
