Mahershala Ali’s Blade finds a director and is Wesley Snipes set to return, well, sort of?

July 20th, 2021 by Marc Comments

It looks like the MCU’s Blade has found its director.

It seems like a million years ago when it was revealed at 2019’s SDCC (here) that Mahershala Ali was set to pick up the mantle left by Wesely Snipes as he brought the good vampire, the Daywalker, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe… and now we know who will be helming.

Rap drama Mogul Mowgli director Bassam Tariq, left, is the man for the job and is in discussions with Marvel to get that contract signed.

It’s interesting that the news should break as we’ve been hearing rumours that, given how the Loki series has now officially cracked open the MCU Multiverse, Wesley Snipes, below, – who played Blade in three movies between 1998 and 2004 – may be set to appear as Blade in the MCU… just not THEIR Blade who will, of course, be Ali.

I’d heard that he may be getting a recurring role that may see him appear periodically throughout various movies in the MCU’s future. Do I believe this?

Well, not really BUT you may recall that, when he was asked how he felt about no longer being Blade (here), Snipes somewhat cryptically replied:

“To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL good. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan.

“Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together. Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming.

“I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”

Now, it may be nothing, but saying things like ‘we will someday work together’ and ‘it’s not de end of de story’ does get the brain stirring in all sorts of fun ways. And we do know he has chatted to Marvel boss Kevin Feige about Blade in the past (here).

Anyway, let me know what you think… would you like to see Snipes back as an older Blade? Or perhaps as a Whistler-type character? Remember, there was even once rumors of Snipes returning as Blade in the MCU and passing the title onto his daughter (here).

It’s a crazy world out there and Loki just opened a universe (literally) of possibilities.
