Well, Wesley Snipes is talking about Blade again and how the character could come back and fit into the MCU and we’re stoked!
If there’s one thing Wesley Snipes is known for it’s playing Blade. Sure, we love Demolition Man, White Men Can’t Jump and so many more of his movies but to us, if someone mentions Snipes, we thing of the Daywalker.
And the character, which – don’t @ me – revolutionised the whole comic book movies genre when the first movie in the trilogy came out in 1998. Fact is, while Burton’s Batman and Singer’s X-Men all played their part, Blade was the undead daddy of the whole deal, is one that has been teased for the MCU before.
Word on the vice a while back was that we were getting Snipes back as Blade in the MCU and he’d have his daughter with him (more on this in a minute), this was to be based on a comic that was set to come out a few years ago but never transpired (here). Snipes has spoken of coming back to the role too (here) and Marvel boss Kevin Feige has said he wants Blade in the MCU (here) and even recently director Antoine Fuqua was rumoured to be in talks with Marvel to make a Blade movie (here) but we’re still here, waiting to hear more…
Until now.
Snipes has been chatting to Vice and, of course, the subject of Blade came up and he was asked if we would ever see the character on the big screen again?
“We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world,” the actor replied – we assume he’s talking about the MCU. He goes on to say he’s been “discussing [the projects] for the past two years”with Marvel/Disney.
Two projects? Could one be the return of the Daughter of Blade idea we discussed before? Or perhaps could one be getting Blade into the Netflix universe? Or perhaps, it’s something to do with the streaming service Disney have coming up?
“What we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now,” Snipes continues.
And, once again, that’s all we know. Would Blade be played by a new actor? Or perhaps could Snipes come back as an aged Blade… would that mean the MCU (unofficially or officially) kicked off with him twenty years ago?
Perhaps someday we’ll get answers but with the Sony movies all tapping into the darker corner of the Marvel universe including Venom and the other big Marvel vampire, Morbius played by Jared Leto (here) and with it looking more and more likely that the Sony movies and the MCU will collide (here) Blade could be just the hero both universes need to pull it all together.
Thoughts?
