With all the talk recently about the Justice League movie you’d have thought it was a done deal that, come 2015, we’d be going to see Batman, Superman and the guys fighting a big bad – probably Darkseid. Seems not.
Warner Bros Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara and the president of Warner Bros. Pictures, Jeff Robinov talked to Variety magazine last week and revealed that Man Of Steel may not just determine if Henry Cavill would be Superman but wether or not the movie will even happen: “Further out, the studio’s planning a “Justice League” tentpole encompassing DC Comics mainstays Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and the Green Lantern on the order of Marvel’s The Avengers. Will Beall is scripting but no director has been attached yet.”
They implied that – with Nolan’s Batman trilogy the exception to the rule – Warners are worried than none of their Superhero movies have set the Box Office on fire – Superman Returns and Green Lantern both performed poorly – and they are still cautious about pooring so much into one movie if it isn’t going to be massive.
Once again Superman, the world rests on your shoulders… but based on the trailer below, we’re confident Man Of Steel should perform well. But you just never can tell.
Man of Steel hits cinemas on June 14th, 2013
