With a lot of video games making their way onto the screen like Tomb Raider and the new Netflix series Witcher, it’s not surprising that Uncharted is well on its way to becoming the next big game to hit the silver screen, with six games to work off there’s a tonne of content and characters to work with.
Pairing with the already cast Tom Holland as Nathan Drake will be Mark Wahlberg taking up the role of Victor “Sully” Sullivan, an American business man/treasure hunter who’s a mentor and father figure to Drake in the series.
Now, I’m not all to keen on this casting to be honest; Wahlberg bears next to no resemblance to the character he’s meant to be portraying (see here), and even though it’s meant to be a prequel to the games, personally, I think there could still be a lot of better casting options.
First that comes to mind is Tom Holland’s father figure for the Marvel movies, Robert Downey Jnr. We already know they have the rapport and he has a much more similar look to Sully in the games than Wahlberg does.
It could be that Wahlberg has gotten the part thanks in part to two of the writers working on the script as Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were both writers for the Transformers movies and have worked closely with Wahlberg in the past, that being said they both also wrote the script for the first Iron Man movie so I’m not entirely sure why RDJ didn’t get a chance.
Director of the Bumblebee movie Travis Knight will be heading up the movie that has a placeholder release date of 2020.
Keep tuned in for more casting news and stay nerdy folks.
