We reported that a Shang-Chi movie was in the works at Marvel in December last year (here) and now it seems we have a director attached.
Shang-Chi is, in the Marvel universe, one of the greatest fighters around, if not THE greatest fighter and is often dubbed The Master of Kung-fu.
Now Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Brie Larson starrer Short Term 12, and The Glass Castle beat out Dear White People’s Justin Tipping, Master of Young’s Alan Yang and some time Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
In the comics Shang-Chi is the son of a Chinese father and white American mother and made his first appearance in 1973, being created when Marvel couldn’t get the comic rights to the Kung Fu TV series. It will be penned by Wonder Woman 1984 screenwriter Dave Callaham and it will see the character brought into the modern day and will feature a predominantly Asian/Asian-Amercian cast.
If we get more, you’ll be the first to know.
