It’s hardly a surprise, but it looks like Melissa McCarthy is in talks for a role, possibly the lead, in Ghostbusters III.
Apparently the actress is in early talks with with Columbia to lead the cast of the reboot directed by Paul Feig who she has worked with on Bridesmaids and the Heat and the just finished Spy. It’s also known that her St Vincent co-star, and original Ghostbuster, Bill Murray is very supportive of the idea of her strapping on a proton pack.
However, it seems it may be a bit more complicated because McCarthy has commitments to TV series Mike & Molly and several movies already lined up so her schedule is pretty hectic and fitting in Ghostbusters might be a bit tough; also more creative (?) talks are needed before she agrees.
In other Ghostbusters news, it seems that, according to the report, the previously rumoured Rebel Wilson and Jennifer Laurence are off the list, however Emma Stone is thought to be free while filming is happening, so she may well still be a possibility for casting.
Another two names have become attached in the form of 22 Jump Street and East Bound and Down’s Jillian Bell and Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong who are both due to meet with Feig (and are both pictured below).
The inclusion of these two and the possibility of Stone still being a ‘maybe’ is a glimmer of hope in an otherwise grim prospect.
