Michael Rooker says James Gunn is also directing Suicide Squad sequel

October 30th, 2018 by Marc Comments

When we heard the news (here) a few weeks ago that Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn was moving to Warner/DC after his firing from Marvel (here) to write Suicide Squad 2 we were pretty much sure that it was only a matter of time until he was announced as the director too.

And, although it’s not an official announcement, we’re hearing from a source who should know that that is, indeed, what is happening.

Gunn’s friend and collaborator Michael Rooker has been talking about the whole affair and while he describes the firing of the director as “terrible”, he adds that Gunn isn’t too worried and is already set to make his comic book movie return.

“Yeah, but oh well, guess what? He’s on a gig already. Suicide Squad, that’s right. He’s writing it and directing it as well!” Rooker said at the recent Walker Stalker convention in Atlanta.

The movie was originally looking like it would be made by director David Ayer who made the first movie. Then it was set to be made by The Accountant director Gavin O’Connor but his project fell down when his script was apparently very similar to the in production Birds of Prey movie.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
