Halloween 2022 is going to be a lot of fun for fans of the Sanderson sisters…
We’ve known for a while that a sequel to the 1993 family Halloween classic was coming (here) but now we have confirmation that the Sanderson sisters are all returning to create havoc for another Halloween!
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi have all now confirmed on Social media that the will return as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson for the highly anticipated Disney+ sequel next year.
This is great news!
Hocus Pocus has become a family staple here with us all going to see it around the season and last year we even went to a drive-in, so this will be a big family night it at Nerd HQ.
In Hocus Pocus 2, three young women “accidentally bring the Sanderson sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.”
The movie will be directed by The Proposal’s Anne Fletcher, replacing the director of the first movie, Adam Skankman who is currently set to direct the Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted, with Amy Adams.
Skankman has said: “As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work.”
Fletcher added: “Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” said Fletcher. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life… this is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”
And it looks like Thora Birch may be back as Dani too…

That leaves just Omri Katz and Max and Vinessa Shaw as Allison and we will have all the principal players back. I’d expect announcements to that effect in the coming weeks.
Who else is excited to be heading back to Salem for this sequel? I want a show of hands…
