Warners Akira remake project eyes directors

April 3rd, 2017 by Dave Bowling Comments

It seems that the Great Hollywood Remake Machine has passed its MoT, as Warner Bros are eyeing up two directors for their live-action remake of Akira.

With the release of Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell remake, it seems Warners are making progress with their version of another anime classic. The last update we had was in June last year, with Justin Lin rumoured to be lined up for the project after Star Trek Beyond. More recently, however, it seems that Lin is now out of the picture.

The two names currently being linked with this project are  Swedish directors Daniel Espinosa (Child 44) and David Sandberg (Lights Out). This will mark the studio’s second attempt at bringing Akira to Hollywood, as a previous attempt was cancelled while in pre-production in 2012 over budget concerns.

So, we have another remake in the pipeline. Let us know what you think, you can probably already guess our opinions on this…

The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
