Could Scream fans be set for some good news soon after the disastrous turn of events that led to Scream VII falling apart?
Well, the grapevine is giving us some very promising nods…
In the last few months Scream VII lost its main stars – the Core Four as they’re known in-universe – including Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega before director Christopher Landon also departed. Then there were rumours that Spyglass went back to Barrera with an offer to return to the movie but the star wasn’t having it. Word was also that original Scream str Neve Campbell had been approached but wasn’t keen.
But now, word is that all that might not be still the case.

While we know it’s unlikely that Ortega will return due to now being a massive star and having projects – including Wednesday season 2 (which will be scarier and more standalone movie of the week feeling, according to the young star) – Campbell has teased that she’s not totally against the idea of Sidney Prescott coming back to fight Ghostface one more time.
“These movies mean a lot to us and they mean a lot to the fans,” Campbell says, “I go to conventions sometimes and I meet the fans and they’re frantic about these films. They love them. These films mean a lot to them and these characters mean a lot to them. So even for their sake, I would love to see it continue.”
But would she return? “Under the right circumstances,” she says.
That’s definitely not a no.

Scream VI was the only movie in the series not to star Campbell after she declined a return basically because she felt she wasn’t being paid enough for her to come back, so perhaps the ‘right circumstances’ comes down to money? Hard to know, our favourite Final Girl still seems to genuinely love the franchise, so perhaps it goes further than than?
On top of all this, it seems there’s a chance that Scream V and VI star Melissa Barrera may have met with Spyglass again after her sacking from the seventh movie; word is that the star was previously meant to meet with the studio this month but it seems that Campbell may have had a hand in this meeting… does that mean we’ll be getting Sam back for the next movie alone with Sidney, Gail (Courtney Cox) and Kirby (Hayden Panettiere)?
If so, I’d put my money on this movie drawing a line under all the movies so far, allowing for the next installment, should there be one, to be a brand new story in the world of Ghostface.
