New details on a Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic movie?

September 15th, 2019 by Marc Comments

With the main Skywalker saga set to come to an end this Christmas, we know that the future of Star Wars lies, at least on the big screen, in telling tales from other eras and places in the galaxy far, far away.

And now we’re hearing that Disney/Lucasfilm are looking to delve into the ear of the Bioware game Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR).

Now, this isn’t new news as we’ve heard this rumour many times before but now I’m hearing that we may have a bit of news about who the movie will feature and who will be bringing it to us.

“Lucasfilm is keen to have a woman of color in the lead for its KOTOR movies. It’s apparently important for them that the pics feature a diverse cast with a female person of color in the role of protagonist.”

On top of this, word is they are looking for female directors for the gig with current frontrunners being A Wrinkle in Time (and soon New Gods at Marvel)’s Ava DuVernay and Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins.

We had heard before that Alita: Battle Angel and Altered Carbon’s script writer Laeta Kalogridis was workign on a KOTOR scriptfocusing on Darth Malak as the main villain.

This could be true because, as we know, The Mandarlorian series is merely weeks away from appearing on Disney+ and Malak is connected to the Mandalorian history as he disobeyed his ancient Jedi Order and went to war with Mandalore.

He also evetually killed – or so he thought – his boss Darth Revan and became a fully-fledged Sith Lord himself. There’s more to the story, of course, but who am I to ruin it?

This has long been rumoured to be the movies eing overseen by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

But who knows.

What do you think of the rumours? Let me know.

In related news, (director, writer, and producer ) Patty Jenkins has signed a multi-year overall deal at Netflix to produce new television series, with the deal valued at $10 million over three years.

Channing Dungey, vice president of original series at Netflix had this to day: “We’re thrilled to welcome Patty Jenkins to Netflix. Her trailblazing work has pushed boundaries and she confidently tells stories that leave an unforgettable mark. We look forward to fostering her many ideas and helping them come to life.”

Looks like Jenkins will have a promising career outside of the DCEU and I can’t wait tosee what exactly it entails.
