New Power Rangers Movie Coming! Classic series being re-envisioned

May 7th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

As if the upcoming Legend War, celebrating 20 years of Power Rangers by bringing back EVERY Ranger for a final battle, wasn’t enough nostalgia for you. It has been announced that a new Power Rangers movie may be coming to a theatre near you too!

Saban and Lionsgate are teaming up to bring the Power Rangers back to the big screen. Which one you ask? Well, they’re going right back to the original Mighty Morphin team. Saying they want to, “re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”.

“Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level,” said Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, in a statement. “They have the vision, marketing prowess and an incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise,” said Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer. “The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years and today they are more powerful than ever. We have the ideal partner and the perfect brand with which to create a motion picture event that will resonate with moviegoers around the world for years to come.”

Rumors have been swirling for a while about a new Power Rangers movie, mainly from former Ranger Jason David Frank who said he was trying to get a Green Ranger movie made with Saban. This may not be what we got, but it could still be epic. There is a question about how connected it will be to the series nowadays and how similar it will be to the original series that took the world by storm in the 90s. But for now, we can rejoice in being able to say once again, “IT’S MORPHIN TIME!!!”
