New report says Henry Cavill may be done playing Superman and Ray Fisher casts doubt on a Cyborg movie

We hope there’s nothing to this as we love Cavill’s portrayal of Superman, but here we go…

A new report from THR says that they are hearing that Man of Steel star Henry Cavill may be stepping down from the superhero role.

With his pretty solid turn in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and being cast in the Netflix Witcher series, it seems that scheduling may be an issue for the actor moving forward as his star rises.

The report states: “Warners had been trying to enlist Cavill for a Superman cameo in Shazam!, which stars Zachary Levi and will bow April 5. But contract talks between Cavill’s WME reps and Warners broke down, and the door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances.

“That’s because the studio has shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill’s age from the storyline’s equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.

“Furthermore, Warners isn’t likely to make a solo Superman film for at least several years, according to another source. “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors,” says a studio source.”

Going on about the future of the DC movies at Warners, the insider says: “There’s a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn’t work,” while another source says Warners is trying to hit a “reset” button with the DC universe, steering its ship slowly into another direction.

It means that at the moment there’s doubt over thee return of Superman and Batman in the form of Cavill and Ben Affleck while Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa are still onboard as Wonder Woman and Aquaman. We can assume that Ezra Miller is still onboard as Flash.

Meanwhile, Cyborg star Ray Fisher has been saying that he doubts a Cyborg movie will happen due to cost: “I don’t know. I can’t comment on that specifically, because they don’t tell me anything until the very last minute. There’s a ton of people making those kind of decisions behind the scenes. And it would be a very, very costly movie to make because it is so CGI heavy with Cyborg, because I’m the only member of the League that’s not in a practical costume.

“You’re going to be looking at $200 million just to make it. So it’s one of those things you have to take into consideration. It’s a numbers game for some people at the end of the day.”

The future is dark and full of problems for DC/Warners still, it seems…
