A new rumour from Belfast, Northern Ireland, could finally be clarification that we’re getting the Star Wars spinoff we really want… Obi-Wan.
According to staff at Belfast’s Paint Hall studios in the Titanic Quarter, they have been told “that once production on the final series of Game Of Thrones finishes later this year, the legendary sci-fi saga [Star Wars] will be coming to town [in 2019]”.
The report goes on that George Lucas himself was in Belfast before Christmas (we know this is true as we saw images of Uncle George on friends’ social pages) and he may have been looking for locations for the Obi-Wan movie. Why Lucas himself would be doing this, given his distancing from the movies since Disney’s buy over is anyone’s guess, however.
“We’ve been told there will be work throughout 2019 because Star Wars is coming to Belfast,” said a member of Paint Hall’s staff.
“It was all very low key, only a few people knew that the old guy walking round the set was George Lucas. It was only when we were told about Star Wars coming here next year that it dawned on us that was why he was here before Christmas.”
In the past reports of the movie happening haven’t exactly been in short supply with a director reported (here) and maybe even Ewan McGregor himself getting prepared to film (here), however, so far there’s been nothing officially announced.
What do you think? Could there be truth to it? Is Obi-Wan coming to Ireland? Well, Luke Skywalker certainly spent enough time here…
