Night Nurse coming to the big screen, but won’t be Daredevil’s Rosario Dawson?

It appears that a character in this year’s hit Marvel Netflix series Daredevil may not be who we thought she was. Myself, like many long-time Marvel fans thought that character Claire Temple (in the comics an actual love interest of Luke Cage) was in actual fact their version of the Night Nurse. A nurse who happens to provide medical care to banged up street level heroes and vigilantes but it appears that this isn’t the case.

At the Television Critics Association press tour this week, Steven Deknight, who executive produced and acted as showrunner for season one, was asked a question regarding how much interference did Marvel run when creating the series and he had this to say: “Really the only time that we got a ‘no’ was originally Rosario Dawson’s character had a different name. She was going to be the actual Night Nurse from the comics and the feature side had plans for her down the road, so that’s the only time that I actually ran afoul and we couldn’t do something. We just used a different name, so it’s the same character. The original Night Nurse that we were talking about, we had her name in a script and it came back that  it’s possible they were going to use it. They weren’t sure at the time, and I’m not sure if they ever moved forward with that on the features side, so we just switched to another character that was kind of the same realm of Night Nurse.”

While he doesn’t mention her civilian name of Linda Carter, it’s assumed he’s referring to the name change of Claire Temple. The Linda Carter version of the Night Nurse was also a notable romantic interest of Dr Strange and one can assume that Marvel’s upcoming Dr Strange movie in 2016 could be where the company plans to use the character.

Coming of this, Rachel McAdams who can be presently seen in HBO’s True Detective, confirmed this week that she is in talks to play the lead female role opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s lead but wouldn’t give details on the character.

McAdams confirmed to the L.A. Times: “That’s sort of super early days and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all. I’m certainly not a comic book snob. I really enjoy them and reading them, I think the Doctor Strange franchise is really interesting and Benedict is amazing. And I love graphic novels. I love that they are coming to light.”

Could she be playing the big screen version of The Night Nurse?

She went on to say what her dream comic book role would be: “I always wanted to make Black Orchid. It’s a tough one. But the fact that Doctor Strange is happening makes me think there’s hope for more Neil Gaiman out there.”

Black Orchid by DC comics and their Vertigo imprint is not in active development but Neil Gaiman’s ‘Sandman’ by Joseph Gordon-Levitt is,which is closely associated with the character so who knows.. perhaps McAdams will see her dream project to fruition.

As of now, it’s interesting news film and TV fans but only time will tell where these rumours take viewers.
