Oh, New York Comic Con is often a time of much rejoicing as the great news and rumours arrive by the truckload.

But sometimes, in among the sweet, is a little sour that you just have to swallow down.

One such example was the news from FTN favourite Ron Perlman earlier today. Perlman, who played Hellboy in the Guillermo Del Toro movies, has been a champion for the third movie for long and many a day, but it seems the fight is over.

And Perlman – and the fans – are the losers.

At NYCC today, the actor said the third movie will “probably will never happen, though you never say never.”

He added: “We [he and Del Toro] don’t talk about that anymore. Because he’s busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say, ‘Hey, let’s do it.’ But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer.”

We, if we’re honest, had feared we’d seen the end of Hellboy – until the inevitable reboot down the line – but we’re still more than a little sad.

Perlman was at NYCC 2016 to promote Guillermo Del Toro’s Trollhunters TV series which, frankly, looks like a lot of fun.

Trollhunters is an epic saga from master storyteller Guillermo del Toro featuring a group of friends who discover a fantastical new world wrapped beneath their home town and who will face a battle between good and bad trolls. All episodes available on December 23, 2016.
