O’Connor, Affleck and Bernthal reunited for Accountant sequel… and soon to be a trilogy?

A movie that really came out of nowhere to be one of our favourites in recent years was Gavin O’Connors’ The Accountant.

The movie, starring Ben Affleck as a mathematics savant who was trained by his father to be a stonecold killer, also had Jon Bernthal and Anna Kendrick and, honestly, was a delight from start to finish. And, while we’ve known for a while that a sequel or TV series was being developed (here), we finally have an idea of what’s coming… and it’s sounding good so far.

In a new interview, O’Connor revealed that Affleck and Bernthal are both set to return to expand the franchise, sorry, story.

“We are doing an Accountant sequel. We literally just closed that deal. We’re doing The Accountant again,” the director said.

Not only that but it seems that this will lead to it being a trilogy if it’s received as well as the first movie.

“I’ve always wanted to do three because what, the second one’s going to be more with… we’re going to integrate his brother into the story,” O’Connor says.

“So there’ll be more screen time for Bernthal in the second one. And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going be a buddy picture.”

And… that’s all she wrote.

For now at least.

However, while there’s no word on Kendrick returning or even JK Simmons who also appeared in the first movie, having Affleck and Bernthal back is a great start… knowing it’s likely a trilogy now? Well, that’s just great news altogether.

Thoughts? I want to hear them.
