Ben Affleck talks the future of The Accountant franchise…

June 6th, 2020 by Marc Comments

I’m not going to lie, I really, really enjoyed The Accountant.

The 2016 movie starred Ben Affleck as an Accountant who as well as being a maths savant, is also a hitman. It was a vey fresh take on a familiar theme and with Affleck and Anna Kendrick in the leads, it also have a very charming cast, so it was a win/win, really.

And it seems that there could be a sequel or TV series in the movie’s future.

“We’ve talked about it. There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it,” Affleck has said recently.

“The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2.'”

Affleck seems keen to revisit the role with director Gavin O’Connor: “But it is one of the few movies that I’ve worked on, that I’d be thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again. I had a great time. It was a lot of fun.

“It was an interesting twist on the genre and I’d love to do it. And if they want to produce a TV show version of it and I get some royalties, well that’s great too.”

I’d happily take a sequel to this movie, but I’d rather not have it carry on on TV with a different actor in the lead… we know how well these things tend to wind up.

Let me know your thoughts, gang…
